Make me SO happy!

The kids and I took a trip to Kohls this morning. We were looking at the Christmas stuff - yes I know it is only October, but I LOVE Christmas! Maya was having a great time looking at every decoration and pushing every button on the dancing snowmen, santas and reindeer. Suddenly she looked up at me and said, "This is so great! It's Christmas, Mom. Make me SO happy!" Then she stood there with this look of delight on her face, her hands clapped together in front of her chest. It brought tears to my eyes to see that I have created a little one with the same love for the Season as myself. :)

I was able to snap a picture with my phone of her dancing along with a santa.

The Joys of Motherhood

This has been a week and it is only Wednesday. On Monday I realized that Kenyon had been super fussy for almost 2 weeks so I took him to the doctor. We found out he had an ear infection so they put him on antibiotics. I thought that was the end of the madness...

Fast forward to today. First of all, Kenyon was up off and on all night. We are letting him cry it out, but I lay there awake listening to him.

Maya woke up for the day at 5:30 am - ouch!

Around 7:00, Maya accidentally poked Kenyon in the eye with some ribbons that she was waving around in front of his face. He cried, but I thought he would be okay.

9:00 - I take Maya to the doctor to get a flu shot. I realized that Kenyon's eye was watering quite a bit still. He has a clogged tear duct in that eye so it always waters, but it seemed more than normal. I asked the nurse about it and she said to schedule an appointment. I was like, ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I have to go out of here and then come back later to another appointment. She said I could wait and see what it looked like tomorrow.

Off we went to Target and music class. By the time music class was over and we were headed to lunch, Kenyon was SCREAMING as soon as we would walk outside and the sunlight would hit his eye. I decided to call the doctor's office. They were out of appointments for the day :(. By this time, it is naptime and both kids are losing it.

I decide to take him to the Urgent Care. Thankfully, they were not busy, but it was a far from easy doctor's visit. The doctor, the nurse and I had to hold Kenyon down to put drops in his eye while he was kicking and screaming. All the while, Maya is crying and yelling, "Don't hurt my brother!"

The diagnosis: corneal abrasion.

The treatment: antibiotic eye drops twice a day (to go with the oral antibiotics he is taking for his ear infection).

We left the doctor's office and all 3 of us came home and napped. After Jeremy came home, I treated myself to a pedicure and night out of shopping with my mom - the best therapy around!!

Big Boy Kenyon

He is growing up so fast!
Riding on the train at Railroad Park in Scottsdale

Sitting up and playing all by himself

His new passion - Club crackers!! (Maya thinks it is so fun to feed him since all along we have warned her that he only drinks milk)

Questions

A friend posted this to her blog and I thought it was a fun one!

What is his name? Jeremy

How long have you been together? We met in 1998 and married in 2002.

How long did you date? We dated for 8 months and then he went on a 2-year church service mission. When he got home, we dated for 8 more months and then got married.

Who eats more? Him

Who said I love you first? He did! We were at Shasta Lake in northern California - it was so beautiful!! Hmmm... young love! :)

Who is taller? Jeremy

Who sings better? We are both horrible, but he is probably a little better.

Who is smarter? I am book smart and he is hands on smart. He loves to watch me try to use a screwdriver or hammer - scary sight!!

Whose temper is worst? We both can be pretty vicious, but I say he wins for the worst.

Who does the laundry? me

Who does the dishes? me

Who pays the bills? me (are you seeing a pattern here?!)

Who mows the lawn? Definitely him!

Who cooks dinner? I do most nights, but he is happy to do it when I don't.

Who drives when you are together? Him

Who is more stubborn? I am not sure on this one. I guess we will say that it is equal.

Who is the first to admit that they are wrong? Me - he has a hard time with it!!

Who kissed who first? He did on our first date, but ask him who he kissed first after his mission. I wrote him a letter every week for 2 years, sent him MANY, MANY packages and his kissed another girl before he kissed me. The nerve!! (Can you tell I am still bitter??!!)

Who asked who out? He did - we went to look at Christmas lights.

Who proposed? Jer

Who has more friends? I do

Who wears the pants in the family? I say that I do, he says that he does. I will let you decide who you think wears them (it's me!!).

Kenyon's Adoption

It has been FOREVER since I posted about Kenyon's adoption. Nothing has been happening. I don't like to post too much on here because I don't know who reads this and I don't want to share too much information that could jeopardize the adoption. So the just of it is, the next 30-60 days will be very critical in helping to get this thing finalized. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers if you could. We are head over heels in love with this little guy and just want to have it done and over.

Thanks!!

In other news, the weather here is BEAUTIFUL! We have been going to the park every night. It is quite the neighborhood party there and everyone has a great time - the kids play together and the adults chit chat.

Palm Springs Excursion

We are home! We had such a good time. I have created a slide show below highlighting our events. We saw flamingos at the hotel, went to the Living Desert Zoo, watched Maya dance in the streets at the Farmer's Market/Villagefest in downtown Palm Springs, swam, went on a boat tour of our resort, shopped our hearts out and so much more! My dad golfed every day and when Jeremy got there, he golfed with him. They were in heaven and so were we. Our villa had 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms so we had our own space which was great. Maya slept in my parents' room and would wake them up in the middle of the night wanting to get in bed with them. I had given them the lecture ahead of time that if they let her one night, she would do it every night. We all know how she runs them so they ended up with little Maya in bed with them every night. I am sure they are relieved to be home and have their bed back!

Some funny moments on the trip:

I have always thought AZ had quite a few old people - nothing like Palm Springs! They were constantly commenting on how beautiful our kids are. One lady, in particular, was telling us how cute they are as we were leaving a restaurant. She turned to Maya and said, "I could take you home!" As we walked away Maya said, "I not go home with her. That lady is silly!" and then she did this loud, silly laugh that she does.

After Maya had used the restroom in our hotel one time, she said, "What's that?" pointing to a bar of soap. You know it is 2007 when an almost 3 year old doesn't know what a bar of soap is because we always use liquid or foam! :)

There was an earthquake in the middle of the night and it woke my parents and Maya, but not Jeremy and I. We had just been up with sick Kenyon (see below) so we must have fallen back into a deep sleep and not heard it. Too bad - I have never felt one before.

A not so funny moment is that Kenyon got sick and was vomiting. It reminded me of a nightmarish trip to Utah in June where he also got sick and threw up, but that time I didn't have my wonderful husband to help. Jer was so good to get up with him during the 2 nights in a row of puke! He is doing better now, but still really fussy.

There were 7 pools at our resort. The best one was this 1 foot pool because we could just hang out on the lounge chairs while Maya swam and swam. She made some little friends and it was so cute to watch them play.

Fun Times with Midori and Kai

I mentioned that last week my sister-in-law Midori and nephew Kai came to visit. Kai turns 2 at the end of the month so they needed to come again before they have to buy a plane ticket for Kai :). We had such a great time with them! Maya and Kai got along great and we did some fun activities while they were here. We are so happy that they moved from New York to Southern California this summer so we can see them more!

Feeding the ducks - I just love this picture!

The Zoo

Aren't they cute?!

We went to Oktoberfest - they have the best kids' activities there!

Panning for gold

He will be crawling in no time - he is now pulling himself onto all fours!

I am still here!

We have had my sister-in-law and nephew visiting from California this week. They flew out today and then we are headed to Palm Springs for the week on Monday. No time for blogging amidst all of the fun! I will post some cute pics sometime soon.
