Pain

Today I feel like this:

Jeremy offered my friend $100 if she could get me to run a 5k. Those of you that know me, know that I am NOT a runner. I haven't run since high school. I walk 3 miles one night a week, but purely for social. So last night was day 1 of boot camp. We ran an ENTIRE mile. I am really sore.

So when I walked into Costco and they were selling Hawaiian Host Chocolate Covered Macadamia Nuts,

I couldn't resist.

Who knew I didn't need to fly to Maui to get them?! I might have eaten quite a few tonight. My muscles didn't feel as sore afterwards.

The 5k is October 24th... less than a month of pain left. I could justify a box of chocolates for every night we run.

A First

Today Maya came bouncing downstairs yelling that she had a loose tooth. I reluctantly checked it out. You see, she is always pretending to have a loose or lost tooth. Friends have starting losing them and she has looked forward to the big day. So as I peeked inside, I discovered it really was loose. As the day went on, she played with it more and more and now it is out. I have to admit, I got a little choked up after realizing that my little girl is slowing growing up. I had no idea this day would come so soon and really, at 4 1/2 years it does seem a little early. Could it be that it fell out on its own or that she was hit in the mouth by a shopping cart on Thursday when the cart was full with a screaming baby and a busy toddler and a driver that didn't see a preschooler hanging on the front of it? Regardless of how, she is ecstatic!

Note: Right after the picture was taken, she dropped the little tooth and it was lost in our carpet. Luckily, we wrote a note to the tooth fairy and hopefully she will still deliver tonight.

Kenyon

This boy is full of conversation lately.

He is often telling me things like, "I do it myself," or "This is my room. You can't come in here." When did he turn into a 2 year old? I was hoping we would bypass the "mine stage."

He is also constantly singing. Some of his favorites are "Itsy, Bitsy Spider," "Alphabet Song," "Wheels on the Bus" and "I am a Child of God." Love to hear his little voice singing - melts my mommy heart!

This morning:

Kenyon: "Mom, this baby called J____. She wants to see her mommy. She wants to go to her house." So sweet and so sad that he is processing her loss of her mommy and house. I responded by telling him that she will still stay with us for a while, but she does get to visit her mommy. He was already off playing with animals and asking me if I wanted to pet the "scary eagle."

Kenyon has to have eye surgery in October for his wandering eyes - have you ever noticed they will wander in at times? A little scary, but mostly relieved that we have caught it early before it affects his vision.

I sure love him.

Soccer Season is Back

The first game was Saturday and Maya scored her first goal of her soccer career.

Here she is about to take away the ball from those boys

And then she left them all in her dust!

Strutting away after scoring - I wish I could have captured her smile!

Still her favorite part of the game

I guess the soccer net that has made its home in the living room is paying off.

Recent Conversations with Maya

Maya: "Mom, do you know what I just told Heavenly Father?"
Me: "What?"
Maya: "I asked him to take me away from this crazy place and take me to college."
Me: "Really... this place is crazy?"
Maya: "Yes. Kenyon always takes my stuff."
Me: "Okay."
Maya: "It is just the little kid college."
Me: "Oh good - so you will come back here still?"
Maya: "Yes."

This girl is also OBSESSED with infomercials. We live in the dark ages and don't have cable TV. This leaves our cartoon selection at 2 channels - PBS and QUBO. PBS doesn't always have cartoons, but QUBO will pull through. The only prob is that it has commercials, not just commercials - infomercials! Maya will come up to me randomly throughout the day and tell me about the latest and greatest product that we must have - "The Turbo Snake," "Paperonis," "Bendaroos," and the list goes on and on. So I didn't give it much thought when she mentioned yesterday that we needed a new juicemaker. After I told her we have one, she went on to tell me all of the exciting features of this particular steal. I humored her and then went on with my day. Fast forward to last night:

Maya: "You are a good mommy."
Me: "Thank you."
Maya: "But we do need a juicemaker mom. It will make us healthy and strong. You can put carrots and apples and bananas in it. You have to cut them into little pieces first."
Me: speechless - this girl is a saleswoman already!

Things I am loving about this week...

1. We went on a fun trip to California last weekend. It was much harder to vacation with baby J in tow - naps, feedings, all of the baby equipment... I forgot about traveling with a baby! We did, however, have a great time visiting family and heading to the beach and the zoo.

2. Maya started preschool this week. Oh how I forgot how much I love preschool! This year she is going 3 days a week instead of 2. While she is gone, baby J naps and Kenyon and I have quality time.

3. Kellen and Camille celebrated birthdays this week so last night we left the kids with a sitter and went out to dinner with the family to McCormick and Schmicks = yummy, yummy swordfish and coconut cupcakes for dessert!

4. I love watching these kids interact - pulling silly faces to make her smile or throwing diapers at her which makes her giggle hysterically.

5. It's Friday! Friends are coming over to play and make Halloween sugar cookies (I know it is only September, but we are hoping Fall cookies will bring Fall weather - we can hope, right???).

Have a good weekend!

Baby J

This morning:

Kenyon: "Mommy, I love this baby," as she was drinking her bottle and he was snuggling up with her. He is often found under her exersaucer or climbing in it with her while baby talking to her. Maya is the same way with her - They do love each other.

He went on to say, "We get another one baby," then paused before adding, "at the store."

Yes Kenyon, if we could guarantee she would be as sweet and easy as baby J, we would run right out and purchase.
