From Maya's Perspective

This is the creation Maya built on Monday. When I asked her to tell me about it, this was her response:

(pointing to each tower) "This is the house where Mommy, Daddy, Kenyon, Devin and I live. This is the house where J lives with her family. This is the house where Nana and Grandpa live..." and so on.

And it got me to thinking - Maya gets it! She tells people J is her foster sister. She knows that J will go home with her Daddy very soon (we think within the next month). She is very matter-of-fact, non-emotional about it. And I love that! I love that she loves J and calls her her sister and smothers her with hugs and kisses, but also realizes that our role as a foster family is to take care of her until she goes home.

Will we be sad when she leaves? Of course! But we will also be happy for J and her Daddy. We will also look forward to the next foster child that will come into our home. We will for sure enjoy the time we have in between with just our kids. We will probably take a vacation and lots of car drives, enjoying the peaceful car rides without J screaming. There will be days when we miss those big, blue eyes and that crooked tooth smile, but we hope to know that we fulfilled our end of the deal and took care of her while in our home and now she will have another Mommy and Daddy to take care of her.

That is the update.

That is so exciting that she will be going home with her daddy. I am sure it will be hard for you, but what a blessing she has been to you guys.
