My Child Sleeps in a Cage

Maya has always been a fabulous sleeper. She sleeps 11-12 hours at night and then takes a 2-3 hour nap. This is a good thing because those of you who know Jer and I know that we LOVE and NEED our sleep. From the minute we lay Maya down in her crib, we don't hear a peep out of her until the next morning. She can go to sleep on her own and doesn't cry while she does this.

All of this came to a sudden stop this week: She learned to climb out of her crib! This happened while she was supposed to be napping the other day. She came running out of her room yelling, "Good Morning, Mommy, Good Morning." This didn't make for a happy Mommy so I put her right back in bed. She continued to climb out 2 more times. So we ended up going for a drive to get her to sleep while we came up with a plan of action.

We decided it was time for a "big, girl bed" and converted her crib to a toddler bed. We tried this for 1 night and 1 nap and none of us got much sleep. (30 times of putting her back into her bed - that girl is determined!) So we resorted to a cage, or a "crib tent" as it is called to be politically correct. It hooks onto the crib and zips up so they can't get out. The funny thing is, Maya loves it! She is always asking to get in and "shut it." We have returned to our good nights of sleep and all is well in our home again.

I wish they had made those things a few years ago. What kid doesn't like to sleep in a tent. Hee hee!
